The 2021 Wine Business Recap

Happy Holidays Everyone,
As we wind down 2021, we realize this interesting and challenging year proves what is to come in 2022.
With continued supply chain issues, 2020 bottlings are pushed back creating gaps between vintages. The lack of dry good supplies, such as paper for manufacturing labels and wine cartons, price surcharges and inflation; are the new norm. It’s only a matter of time until a winery can no longer absorb these additional costs. We are working hard with our producers to maintain pricing for as long as possible.
Major delays at congested ports and airports halt worldwide imports and exports. Imports of French wine barrels will continue through 2022 whereas the season would normally be over. Vessels waiting to disembark with wine shipments from California, Oregon, and Washington continues growing as the entire West Coast is affected. Also, let’s not forget that the Longshore Union and Pacific Maritime’s contract is up, so it’s time for negotiations…fingers crossed.
Now for the good news, we survived the crush and avoided fires! The 2021 harvest for West Coast Agricuture producers is looking to be the best harvest in quite some time! For the vineyards, consistent warm and dry heat over the past several years, channeled grapevine vigor creating lesser producing vines with less than normal yields, resulting in better quality fruit. Combine this with the shortage of grapes due to the 2020 fires and everyone will be looking to get their hands on the 2021 vintage.
That is why we are here for you!
Cheers,
