Stephen Ross Wine Cellars
2023 · San Luis Obispo Coast
Stephen Ross San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir
Classic Burgundian methods of winemaking were used in making this wine; open-top stainless steel fermenters, punch downs by hand, pressed with a modern stainless steel basket press, aged in French oak barrels and put into bottle with a clarifying filtration.
The wine is a brilliant, vivid ruby red color. On the nose, ripe raspberry and cranberry overlay low key dark cherry, dark chocolate and interesting stony forest floor notes and rose petal. Soft on the palate, medium bodied, a bit of salinity, gentle acidity, velvety texture with a lingering finish.

THE PEOPLE & THE PLACE
Stephen Ross Wine Cellars
Our Stephen Ross story begins with the "Stephen Ross Dooley wine story" in Minnesota, where in my teenage years curiosity in wine led me to make rhubarb and apple wines in the family basement…
Things progressed on a nice upward trajectory from that point. Curiosity evolved into a passion for winemaking, which led to a degree in Enology from The University of California, Davis; then 10 years of winemaking (all vinifera from here on out, thankfully) in the Napa Valley, two southern hemisphere harvests, and seven years in the Edna Valley before I launched my own brand, Stephen Ross. Paula joined the team soon after, and we hired the first employee in 2005. A companion brand, Flying Cloud, was launched in 2003.
Stephen Ross was founded on the principles of working with quality vineyards and hand-crafting the best wines possible from the grapes they yield. The winery started small, grew as financial resources allowed, and we stuck to our principles in winemaking and business – great, small production wines, solid business practices, and a nice, engaging place to work for our crew.
San Luis Obispo Coast
Established in 2022, the San Luis Obispo Coast AVA (aka SLO Coast) is a specific region within the Central Coast, running along the coastline and influenced directly by the Pacific Ocean. It stretches roughly 80 miles; 20 miles north of Cambria to just south of Nipomo with vineyards generally located within 6-8 miles of the ocean. These wines tend to be more elegant and delicate, with a focus on balance and minerality, particularly in white and cool-climate red varieties.
